Product Feature: Etón Scorpion

This month’s featured product, the Scorpion, is new to the Etón line of outdoor products. Introduced on May 11th, the Scorpion is a solar-powered, multi-function unit for all of your adventures.

A completely self-powered device, the multi-functional Scorpion provides Light, Information and Energy in one convenient and rugged device. The device can be powered by three sources: solar panel, dynamo hand-crank and AC adapter – allowing the user to have maximum flexibility, in even remote areas.

When information is critical, Scorpion provides up-to-date and detailed information and weather conditions through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather band, and has an AM/FM radio digital tuner.

Keeping with the high-design of all Etón products, the Scorpion also brings vibrant, contrasting color to its exterior, available in green or orange. Other design elements an aluminum carabiner clip for securing the device, a built-in LED flashlight, and bottle opener. Incorporated into a compact, ultra-portable package for ultimate convenience, the Scorpion also has an audio line input for music devices.

This will be a great product for all of our camping trips or hiking adventures. You can read more about it on the Scorpion product page.

How long does it take to charge a cell phone? Or, how long must one crank the scorpion to be able to use it to charge for a cell phone. I plugged my blackberry into the USB adaptor after cranking it for 2 minutes and the cell phone did not begin to charge.
    Thanks,

    Jonathan

    Great question, Jonathan!

About 5 minutes of cranking enables the Scorpion to make one short, emergency call. If you crank for a longer period, one can make multiple calls.

First, the Scorpion must be placed into cell phone charging mode. With the Scorpion turned on, press the ‘M’ button over and over until the time shows with the word ‘CELL’ in the lower right corner of the display. Then plug in the cell phone and turn the crank.

    Thanks!

any ansewer to the amperage question for the scorpion’s adapter?

  6. emily 29 December 2011 at 2:24 pm Permalink

    Rich -

The specs for the Scorpion: output voltage is 6 Volts DC, 300 milliamps current and positive polarity.

Do note, however, that a less expensive adapter may be difficult to find—ours is priced at $10 (+ shipping) and is available at our site.

    Thanks!

Does one HAVE to crank the Scorpion in order to charge cell phones or does the Scropion discharge energy to the cell phone if it is fully charged?

My Eton Scorpion just came in the mail today. Its pretty sweet! I cranked the hand crank for a few minutes, and the battery indicator shows that its fully charged. When i play the radio, however, the battery goes to empty within 10 mins or less. Im guessing that its not fully charged even though it says it is, am i reading it wrong? Whats the deal?

I am looking for a DC adaptor for the Scorpion Solar Powered All Terrain unit. I saw the AC adaptor on your website but not the DC adaptor. Do you sell these? Thanks, Nick

Will the Scorpion charge Iphones? I heard that they can’t. Also, Is ther a separate AC adapter and DC adapter available for the Scorpion?
