Natural Disasters in Film
Natural disasters are serious and nothing to scoff at (which is why we always stress preparedness). However, over the years, we’ve seen natural disasters like tornadoes, tsunamis and earthquakes show up in film.
Most of the time, these are not good examples of how to properly behave during a natural disaster. In the movie Twister, the main characters are storm chasers who run, on foot, from an F5 tornado—That is definitely not one of things to do when a tornado strikes.
Luckily, most film characters make it out in one piece, despite their poor planning skills (and lack of Etón weather radios). For today, though, we’re highlighting our favorite appearance of a natural disaster in film:
The Twister in The Wizard of Oz
As it turns out in the end, Dorothy is only dreaming. However the Twister she imagines is like none we’ve ever seen before, transporting her and Toto from Kansas to a mysterious munchkin-laden land.
