Road Trip Essentials

Heading out on the open road this summer? It’s always exciting to hop in the car and go on a road trip—whether it’s a planned vacation or a spontaneous getaway. Regardless of why you’re hitting the pavement this summer, there are a few things essential to any successful road trip:

Snacky Snacks

The whole point of a road trip is to be on the road! And logging all those miles is sure to burn some calories. Naturally, you’ll need snacks in the car to keep you fueled up for the adventure. Be careful when choosing road trip foods—they need to be simple, easy-to-eat finger foods that are also easy to share and store.

A few things we recommend include: cheese crackers (in a box so they don’t get crushed), fruit chews (in fun shapes if possible), or if you’re feeling guilty about sitting so much, toss in some fresh fruit, like bananas or grapes. Don’t forget to hydrate—keep bottles of water in a small cooler if you have space. You’ll save time and money!

Musical Music

What’s  a road trip without a carefully formulated playlist? Consider the crowd you’ll be traveling with and compile a list of songs that are sure to get your toes tapping (and hopefully inspire windows-down, radio-up, singing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs). Not sure where to start? Think about memories you’ve made with the friends you’re traveling with and choose songs to bring back those days gone by.

Still stumped? Here are a few to get you started: On the Road Again by Willie Nelson, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers, Life is a Highway, by Rascall Flatts and Start Me Up by the Rolling Stones.

Safe Safety

Getting a flat tire during a road trip is just part of the adventure. That is, unless you’re stuck with no way to fix it. At night. In the rain.

So maybe that’s a little dramatic, but an emergency can really put a kink in a road trip. That’s why we recommend grabbing the Road Torq before you hit the road, Jack. This flashlight and beacon in one works via hand-crank, so no batteries are necessary. Just grab the little guy out of the glove box and he’ll serve as a flashing beacon and hands-free light while you fix your tire.
