The World’s Coolest Solar-Powered Building
Solar power is a great choice for electricity—it’s naturally made. In order to reign in the power of the sun, scientists have developed solar cells. These cells capture sunlight and turn the photons into an electrical current. Solar power is used most often to power things like radios, cars or even some homes. However, some green-savvy businessmen are now using solar power to run their companies—and it’s really cool! Check out our favorite, New York’s Broadway Stages:
Broadway Stages
This popular film and television studio in Brooklyn works with major Hollywood studios and has been involved with hits like “Duplicity” and “The Good Shepherd.” Even all-star artists like Jay-Z and Beyonce have made music videos at Broadway Stages. The coolest part? The studio is completely run on solar power.

According to an NBC New York article about the studio, “The studio’s rooftop solar panels generate enough power to prevent the burning of 75,000 gallons of diesel fuel, cutting energy bills by more than $70,000 a year.”
The article also quotes City Councilman Jim Gennaro, who praises Broadway Stages for their solar efforts:
“’I applaud Broadway Stages for becoming the first solar powered sound stage in the world, in turn, creating 10 full-time jobs and more than 50 part-time jobs for New Yorkers,’ said Gennaro. ‘Their initiative is a shining example of renewable energy investment and its various benefits – including the creation of green-collar jobs and growth of the local green-economy.’”
Broadway Stages combines two of our favorite things: solar power and entertainment—and we couldn’t be happier. We hope other companies will follow suit and harness the sun’s power!
