The London 2012 Olympics: A Playlist

In just one week, the 2012 summer Olympics will kick-off in London. And what would the Olympics be without powerful, inspirational, uplifting music? Last month the 86-song playlist for the opening ceremonies leaked online—and it’s full of brilliant songs both old and new.

Instead of listing all 86 songs, here are five of our favorites that are perfect for your own Olympics playlist. Create a playlist on YouTube, stream the songs via MOG, or buy them on iTunes.  Then, wirelessly play them via a Bluetooth sound system to keep yourself in the Olympic spirit!

The Jam – Going Underground

For most Brits, this was an obvious choice.

The Sex Pistols – God Save the Queen

This is one of the most controversial songs on the playlist, as the Queen will be in attendance at the opening ceremony.

The Kinks – All Day and All of the Night

Similar to this song, we’ll have Olympic coverage pretty much 24/7 for the next few weeks.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Relax

The Olympics are probably anything but relaxing for the athletes, but it’s still a good song.

David Bowie – Heroes

“We can beat them, just for one day. We can be heroes, just for one day.”

The full playlist features songs from scores of famous British artists (hence being in London), including The Beatles, Adele and the Arctic Monkeys. We look forward to hearing them all during the opening ceremony next week!

Want to keep up with the Olympic coverage no matter where you are? Universal Radio is currently offering a special on the G2 Reporter, which features AM/FM/Shortwave and 20 different languages – keep up with your favorite country’s team (in their native language) right from your living room!
