Today is World Environment Day and in honor, we’re proudly joining hands with other organization to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environment action. Organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Environment Day (more commonly known as WED) is aimed to give global citizens an opportunity to share ideas and activities for making our world cleaner, greener, and brighter. Wanting to celebrate WED with your friends and family? We suggest partaking in one or even several of the following:
- Visit the WED website. Start your holiday at the source, http://www.unep.org/wed/. Learn about the foundation’s history and take advantage of media assets in the event you’re planning your own WED event. Check out point five for our ideas!
- Take public transportation. By taking public transit, you’ll know that you are doing your part to cut down on CO2 emissions and the dependence on foreign oil. Lower carbon footprint!
- Perform a personal energy audit. Adopt a more eco-friendly, sustainable lifestyle by conducting an inventory of your energy usages, consuming habits, and reliance on unsustainable products. Our charge to you: How can you curb your usage to a more sustainable lifestyle?
- Host your own WED event – Did you know that a third of all food produced around the world is being wasted? As this year’s WED theme is “Think, Eat, Save: Reduce your FOODprint”, we suggest teaming up with friends and family across the country and clearing out your pantries to donate to food banks. Learn more about this year’s theme from UNEP’s Goodwill Ambassadors Gisele Bündchen and Don Cheadle:
