5 Ways to Enjoy a Family Staycation

Looking for a satisfying getaway with the family but can’t quite make it out of the city or off to the campgrounds? We suggest these five budget-friendly adventures for your staycation pleasure.

  • Go on a family cycling adventure. You don’t have to be an avid biker to have a blast. For a safer adventure traverse local bike trails instead of hitting the streets.
  • Backyard camping. Although we’re a big fans of major U.S. campgrounds, sometimes you and your family just can’t make the trip. Instead, grab your camping gear and set up your home on the range, right outside of your actual home! Instead of a campfire, we suggest cooking hotdogs and s’mores over the grill. Here are some grilling tips for backyard safety!
  • Plant a family garden. Consult the Farmer’s Almanac planting calendar to see when is best time to plant your favorite foliage. Provide tools for all of your family members to help plant and spend the morning or afternoon getting your hands dirty. Bring along your iPod and a solar-powered sound system to enjoy some tunes while you dig (and jam!) with the ones you love.
  • Turn your home into a spa. You don’t need to go to a pricey spa to rejuvenate your body and spirit. Create your own spa at home by buy new nail polish, lotion, clay masks, and other primping tools. You’ll feel refreshed, all while saving money.
  • Try a simple weekend project. Wanting a project to tackle but can’t put your finger on the best option? Our Weekend Warrior series can help define to-dos around the home, perfect for a 24- or 48-hour time period.

If you’re looking to head outside of the confines of our home, consult your local Convention & Vistor’s Bureau for local festivals, museums or cultural trails.
